Music streaming service and Spotify rival Deezer today announced it has launched its platform in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, further expanding its service outside of Europe (where it says it covers 46 countries).
The company doesn’t provide any new statistics for its service, instead rehashing the same details from earlier press releases. In this respect, Deezer continues to build on its 20 million strong userbase, offering 15 million tracks from over 2,000 music labels in supported markets.
This is in line with earlier stated goals (PDF) of launching in no less than 200 countries by June 2012 – notably excluding the USA and Japan.
Similar to Spotify, Deezer offers tiered access to music, allowing users to sign up for a free account to listen to previews and selected radio playlists for free, a middle tier that provides access via the browser on Mac and PC and its all-in option that opens access to smartphone, tablet and connected devices.
The French company recently said at a conference that 60 percent of its signups in the UK are coming from mobile, thanks in part to its partnership with mobile operator Orange. It also has a partnership with Facebook (PDF) in place.
