The Uber for dog poop might be the shittiest app ever [Update]

The Uber for dog poop might be the shittiest app ever [Update]

Edit: It’s totally fake.

Proving the sharing economy is dominating every aspect of our lives, we now have an app for cleaning up dog poop.

The new app, Pooper (seriously), is designed to keep dog owners from having to pick up after their four-legged friends when they do their business. Its motto? “Your dog’s poop in someone else’s hands.” Well, if you live in San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York anyway.

“There’s been a mixture of real excitement and skepticism,” said the Pooper creators in a press release. “But we think the debate over whether the app is real is definitely a net positive for us—not only in terms of building brand recognition, but also in sparking interest for the upcoming release.”

I’m skeptical, but the co-founders swear the app is a real thing and not some elaborate hoax or a running bit of social commentary on the lives of lazy Americans.

To use the app, you simply let your dog do its business, and then snap a picture of it once they’re finished. From there, the geo-located photo gets sent to a team of paid pooper scoopers who will come save the day by removing it.

It begs the question though, if you’re going to take a picture of poop, why not just stop and pick it up?
