Big cities have their own fair share of hippies, but it’s the 21st century, so even tree huggers have to go digital.

New York City’s Upper West Side Councilmember Mark Levine has proposed a bill that would give about 200 of the city’s street-lined trees individual email addresses.

“NYC is a tough place to be a tree,” Levine told Gothamist. Oh. “By giving each tree a unique e-mail address, it makes it really easy to report problems.”

The idea is help communities report broken branches or other maintenance issues, but you may also be able to send the tree some casual love, as some Melbourne residents have done with their own email-equipped trees in 2013.

I’m so sorry you’re going to die soon. It makes me sad when trucks damage your low hanging branches. Are you as tired of all this construction work as we are?

The tree probably won’t respond, but I’m sure it’ll appreciate when you report to the city the next time you see Tay lose her shit.
