Over $200 million has been pledged for video game projects on Kickstarter’s crowdfunding platform

Pledges for video game-related projects on Kickstarter have now surpassed $200 million, according to the latest statistics published by the crowdfunding platform. A little over $178 million funded successful campaigns, while the remaining $19.85 million was returned to backers.

Kickstarter has been home to a number of high-profile video game projects over the last couple of years, including Double Fine Adventure ($3.33 million), the Oculus Rift ($2.44 million) and the Android-based OUYA video game console ($8.59 million).

Video games aren’t the most popular campaign category on Kickstarter – a whopping 31,788 projects have been set up for film and video-related projects to date, in comparison to 7,921 for the interactive form of entertainment. Regardless, video games have proven to be the most successful, with a higher number of pledges and successful pledges than any other campaign type.
