FBI seizes alleged drugs marketplace Silk Road

FBI seizes alleged drugs marketplace Silk Road

The existence of the Silk Road online market that has allegedly been used to sell drugs has been common knowledge for some time, but it seems the FBI has now taken action to close it down.

According to security researcher Brian Krebs, Ross Ulbricht, the man alleged to be behind the site and the online username Dread Pirate Roberts, has been charged with conspiracy to traffic narcotics, computer hacking conspiracy, and conspiracy to launder money.

It seems law enforcement has been staking out the site – which has now been replaced by an FBI domain seizure notice – since 2011 and had been making purchases from the site which were then sent to a lab for testing.
