Amazon releases Cloud Drive Photos Android app, wants you to store all your images in its cloud

Amazon releases Cloud Drive Photos Android app, wants you to store all your images in its cloud

Adding to its already impressive range of cloud services, Amazon has today launched its new Cloud Drive Photos app for Android devices, allowing owners of its Kindle Fire tablets and other Google-powered smartphones and tablets to store and share their images on the go.

Amazon offers the app as a way of complimenting its existing Cloud Drive service, allowing new users to take advantage of the free 5GB of storage that the company currently offers.

When installed on an Android device, Cloud Drive Photos allows users to press and hold albums already stored on the device, brining up an “Upload to Cloud Drive” option to upload existing photos to Amazon’s cloud. Once uploaded, the app can be used to select and share photos which can then ben shared via email or to various social networks.

Curiously, it doesn’t boast an auto-upload feature like the ones found in the Google+ and Dropbox Android apps.

Because the Kindle Fire already boasts Cloud Drive integration, the app is primarily aimed at users of non-Amazon devices, although it can still be downloaded via the Amazon Appstore, as well as Google Play.

The release comes less than a month after Amazon announced a Mac app for its Cloud Drive service. It appears that while the company is pushing itself as a hardware company, it is still looking to get users of other devices interacting with its services.
