MobileBits buys Swiss mobile marketing firm Aixum to boost European expansion

Los Angeles-based mobile and social software developer MobileBits this morning announced that it has acquired Zurich, Switzerland-based startup Aixum.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the deal gives MobileBits a European office from which it aims to expand into other European countries.

Aixum CEO Andrew Marshall will join MobileBits as its COO, while Andre Lambelet was appointed VP of Technology. All other Aixum employees will join the MobileBits team.

Aixum offers mobile marketing, advertising and loyalty solutions for the local business marketplace and says it has deployed to “many thousands of merchant locations” across 60 brands in Europe, including big name clients like McDonald’s and Spar.

MobileBits says it will combine its digital and social software platform with Aixum’s European mobile marketing network shortly.

A sidenote worth highlighting: Aixum was founded in 2009 … in tiny Liechtenstein of all places.
