Not very good news unless you’re totally cool with the whole patent trolling thing: WiLAN this morning announced that it has acquired a global portfolio of more than 40 patents and applications from Siemens.
The patents and applications in question relate to telecommunication network management and mobile multimedia, according to a statement.
Siemens, which was founded in 1847 (!) is the largest Europe-based electronics and electrical engineering company.
Terms of the deal were kept under wraps.
WiLAN, which bills itself as a “technology innovation and licensing company”, has in the past initiated litigation against real companies like Apple, Dell, HP, Sony, Intel, HTC, LG, Texas Instruments, Acer, Motorola, Kyocera, Alcatel-Lucent, Novatel and Sierra Wireless America. My educated guess is that there’ll be more lawsuits.
