Google brings in-browser VR to Cardboard

Google brings in-browser VR to Cardboard

Google announced today that open virtual reality gallery WebVR would be available to Cardboard users. Now all you need is an Android phone and a Cardboard headset to use WebVR games.

WebVR is a VR standard that works within browsers. According to the site, “The goal is to make it easier for everyone to get into VR experiences, no matter what device you have.” Not only can you experience VR more easily, you can develop VR software as you would a browser game.

Google is also opening a dedicated gallery of WebVR Experiments where users can find new things to play. At the moment, all of the games in gallery are free. Every Experiment also has online code available to help others make their own games.

According to Google, desktop WebVR support for headsets like Oculus and Vive is coming soon. Google added WebVR support to Daydream phones earlier this year.
