Nintendo’s first-ever Super Bowl ad shows Zelda comes before breakfast

It’s hard being a gamer. When you wake up, the first thing you want to do is play. Forget brushing your teeth or eating breakfast or going to work – Zelda comes first.

Fret no more, as the Nintendo Switch will solve all your troubles. The company’s Super Bowl ad – its first ever – will air during the fourth quarter and shows how gamers around the world will begin to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild before even getting out of bed. They’ll even play while they cook breakfast, which sounds dangerous.

Okay, sure, you could do that with handheld systems and the Wii U. But it’s not the same!

In all seriousness, it’s a short but effective appeal to the Switch’s strengths. The main reason I don’t game nearly as much as I used to is that I don’t have the time while I’m at home, yet there are plenty of times I can use to multitask, like during a long subway commute or while I’m doing cardio at the gym.

I suspect the same applies to many other people. And while again, that’s what mobile consoles are for, we’ve never been able to take flagship console titles on the go. The Nintendo Switch changes that.

There’s also a longer version of the ad, which is only available on the web. Naturally, it’s a more in-depth look at the Switch’s features:

March 3 can’t come soon enough.
