Sony sent invites for an event on September 7 it’s calling “PlayStation Meeting,” and it’s likely that the company will finally share some information about its upcoming 4K-capable PlayStation Neo gaming console.
We first heard rumors about the upgraded console in March; Sony gaming President and CEO Andrew House confirmed in June that the Neo was indeed in the works, and would be sold alongside the standard PS4. However, the company chose not to reveal the system at the famed E3 expo that month.
Sony hasn’t specified exactly what’s in store at its event; it only mentioned that it will “share details about the PlayStation business.” It may also talk about its push into virtual reality gaming, as the PlayStation VR hardware was revealed earlier this year and is slated to go on sale in October.
It’ll be interesting to see what Sony has up its sleeve, now that Microsoft has already revealed its updated Xbox One S and is set to release an even more powerful 4K-ready console, codenamed Scorpio, sometime during the holiday season next year.
