Facebook is reportedly in talks with Major League Baseball to bring streaming games to the platform.

The deal — which insiders are describing as 50/50 at this point — could be a boon for the company. Facebook has displayed an increase focus on video of late, and a streaming deal with one of the “big three” American sports (football, baseball, basketball) certainly wouldn’t hurt. A Reuters report says the deal would be for one game a week to start — and one we hope that’s more entertaining than the historically ho-hum Thursday Night NFL games found on Twitter.

For Twitter, the lucrative NFL deal is one of few bright spots. The experience left nothing to be desired, and pointed out what could possibly be the way forward for the company: live sports and events.

Facebook is in no such danger, but the timing is right. Earlier this month, the platform secured rights to 46 Liga MX soccer games from Univision after a test saw 3.7 million users tune into a charity match between English clubs Manchester United and Everton.
