Facebook now lets you publicly endorse candidates (if you’re brave enough)

It’s generally pretty easy to tell which candidates people support based on the things they post and like, but now Facebook is making your endorsements really obvious.

The company today quietly added an endorsement feature that anyone can use to prominently display their colors and invite endless family feuds about politics. Candidates now have an Endorsement tab on their pages, from which you can click just click on ‘endorse.’

Thankfully, Facebook does provide some control. If you were to endorse Vermin Supreme (you can’t actually endorse him, much to my dismay), you would be able to hide your views from specific people or groups of people. Once you select an endorsement, Facebook will post it onto your friends’ news feeds, and you can write some text to go along with it.

If you choose to go public, you might show up on your on your candidate’s page too. So far, we see endorsements available for Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein.

It’s a particularly neat feature if you’re the kind of person who has strong opinions about the election, but don’t care to write posts and share articles reflecting your opinion all the time. On the other hand, it’s sure to cause plenty of turmoil on the social network; expect estranged family members and people you haven’t spoken to since high school to yell at you over your views.
