Mobile news apps publisher Mobiles Republic bags $3 million round

French mobile apps publisher Mobiles Republic has landed $3 million in funding from investment firms XAnge Private Equity and Creathor Ventures.

Originally founded in 2008 with offices in Bordeaux (France) and New York, Mobiles Republic specializes in news apps for smartphones, tablets and connected TVs.

The freshly funded company relies heavily on its proprietary, multi-lingual semantic search and targeting solution TagNav to power applications like News Republic, APPY Geek, Biz Report and Glam Life, which are popular in the US and Europe.

Through content partnerships with – over 300 – news providers, Mobiles Republic’s apps deliver thousands of news articles a day, but aims to let users filter this flood down to the stories that (should) actually interest them.

Mobiles Republic apps are preloaded on Samsung Mobile, Lenovo, Motorola and Sony Ericsson handsets in several regions.

The firm claims to serve a respectable 100 million page views a month.
