Telus and Koodo bring “Facebook Phone” to Canada

Telus and Koodo bring “Facebook Phone” to Canada

Known affectionately as “The Facebook Phone” in tech circles, The Next Web covered the INQ Cloud Touch when it was just a whisper on the web and once it debuted in the US. This week, Telus Mobility and its youth-marketed mobile brand Koodo finally brought the device to Canada.

“Telus is excited to bring the INQ Cloud Touch to social networking enthusiasts in Canada,” said David Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer for Telus. “It’s a unique and great addition to Telus’ smartphone family.”

Inside Facebook reports that approximately 16.6 million Canadians using Facebook and Telus Mobility reporting its user base at over 7 million at the end of its first fiscal quarter in 2011. Bringing a device to Canada that can take full advantage of the Facebook experience is an innovation that both Telus and Koodo couldn’t pass up.

“Throughout Canada, Facebook has become a central part of our lives,” added Kevin Benderk, Chief Koodo Officer at Koodo Mobile. “It’s how we keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones. It’s also how we learn about the most important developments of our lives. The INQ Cloud Touch reinvents the social-mobile experience with an unprecedented Facebook integration. We are excited to see this innovation come to life and are thrilled to make it available to our customers.”

I’ve been given a model to put through the paces over the next two weeks and will be offering up a comprehensive review of the INQ Cloud Touch once I’ve given it a full test drive — including how it handles on the Telus network. But if you’re keen on getting one beforehand, Telus and Koodo are offering up the phone now. Plans at Telus range from $29.99 for a 3 year term and $229.99 for the device straight up (with no term attached) and Koodo currently offers the handset at $50 with a “use tab” of $150 or $200 with no such tab.
