Dr. Patricia Scanlon is an experienced speech recognition engineer, holding a PhD in Speech Recognition technologies, and an entrepreneur. She has over 20 years’ experience working in academia and industry, including IBM Research and Bell Labs. In 2013, Dr. Scanlon founded SoapBox Labs, envisioning how voice can be used to redefine how children interact with technology as well as advance their literacy and language learning skills. She has authored international peer-reviewed conference papers and journals and holds several patents. She serves as a mentor to young entrepreneurs at the Founder Institute and an Advisor on Artificial Intelligence activities in Ireland for the non-profit Tech Ireland.
