Google Maps gets a custom home screen for easier navigation across India

Google is updating its Maps service for Android users in India so it’s easier to navigate across the country right from the moment you launch the app.

The home screen on Maps has been retooled to load faster, and it now displays shortcut buttons to quickly look up directions to any destination using different modes of transport, as well as the option to download an area for offline use.

The changes are small, but handy – and it’s interesting to see Google making an effort to tailor its services to better serve users in India. It previously rolled out a useful update to help spot and avoid traffic jams across the country.

You’ll find the new home screen in Maps’ Android app from today; grab it from Google Play.
