I’m a map geek, so this Maps Time Travel thing is fascinating to me. It compares road travel today with what it was like in 1945.
You can enter any two UK cities or postcodes and compare travel times, distances and routes you’d take today with those from 71 years ago. Spoiler: fuel is generally a lot cheaper and journey times are a lot shorter today than they were in the olden days.
That said, I did find that while a London to Manchester journey is much cheaper and faster than it used to be, you actually drive 8 more miles than you did in 1945. Sometimes smaller roads are just more direct.
Fellow map geeks will love the ability to fade in old-school 1945 map graphics, and I loved following the obscure routes I’d have to take back then to do some of the regular journeys I make today.
