There’s no shortage of apps that can apply a filter to your photos and make them look slightly cooler (or maybe just more clichéd). But GeometriCam for iOS is something a bit different.
Here are three selfies I took with the app…
The app has a unique look all of its own, applying highly tweakable geometric distortions to an image. Each of the images above took about 20 seconds to compose, including adjusting the color balance, image resolution and shape settings.
Oh, and it does video too…
Here’s a Mumbai street scene, as taken by a GeometriCam beta tester:
And some have gone further, using the app in conjunction with video editing software to create trippy visuals like this…
Developer Giuseppe Capozzo was aiming for an “innovative, refreshing, contemporary” look when he created GeometriCam, and he’s succeeded.
If I have one criticism, it’s that the interface isn’t quite as intuitive as it could be, even after completing the onboarding tutorial. After using the app for some time, it was only while working on this paragraph that I discovered a ‘Preset Mixer’ feature that allows you to quickly switch between the shape, color and tuning settings from different presets.
On the plus side though, it’s an interface that encourages experimentation and play.
Whether you use it for an eye-catching selfie or something more unusual, do it soon because GeometriCam offers a look that could well catch on quickly. The app costs $1.99 and is available now.
Right, I’m off to switch my Twitter avatar to a geometrically twisted selfie…
