Stevie’s social TV platform hits Android, and now lets you beam channels to the big screen via Apple TV

Stevie, the oddly-named TV-focused startup that emerged from Microsoft’s Azure Accelerator in Israel in early 2012, has announced the launch of its Android app.

If you’re new to Stevie, the platform provides a social TV layer that combines content from your Facebook and Twitter feeds, along with popular videos from YouTube. To keep the experience as ‘lean-back’ as possible, it’s displayed directly over the content you are watching. You can create your own channel by connecting social feeds to your Stevie account, and there’s also curated channels based on social feeds from various industries – lifestyle, design, sports, technology, news, food, and more. It launched more than 450 fresh channels back in March this year.

Thus far, Stevie has been available on the Web, iOS and on Xbox, and it’s fair to say that an Android incarnation has been a long time coming. Plus, there’s good news for Apple fans today too – the iOS app now supports Apple TV via AirPlay, meaning you can beam Stevie in full HD to your big screen and use your iPhone or iPad to skip channels and control clips.

The new Android app is available to download from Google Play now, as is the refreshed iOS app replete with Apple TV/AirPlay support.
