Hotel Tonight rolls out its same-day room-booking service for iPad users

We first brought you news on Hotel Tonight last month, an app which lets you book same-day hotel rooms for up to 70% less in more than thirty cities across the US, including New York, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC. And today, it’s rolling out a version optimized specifically for iPad.

To give you a quick recap of how the app works, each day at noon, Hotel Tonight offers same-day hotel deals in a variety of categories from Basic and Hip to Luxe. All hotels are personally vetted by Hotel Tonight staff and rooms can be booked until 2am in each destination’s time-zone.

Hotel Tonight’s latest incarnation includes higher resolution images, optimized for the Retina display on the new iPad, and hotel profiles featuring an infinitely scrolling collage user interface.

It’s certainly a nice interface, and does a good job of translating its smartphone offering to the big screen, despite it seemingly being a little rushed.

“We had high ambitions for this app, including a fully custom UI, and only a short amount of time to turn our idea into a masterpiece,” says Ray Lillywhite, Lead iOS Developer at Hotel Tonight. “Needless to say it was all hands on deck. We began building in mid-December and worked many late nights, consumed more caffeine and take-out than usual, in order to get every detail right in due time. We’re thrilled to see this project come to fruition and couldn’t be happier with the results.”

If you don’t have an iPad, you can still use the smaller-screen iOS version, whilst its Android version is really sweet too. “We’re raising the bar for the iPad experience, similar to what we did on the iPhone, and we believe we have the best last-minute hotel booking iPad app on the market,” adds Sam Shank, CEO of Hotel Tonight.
