SoundCloud users can now sell tracks easily across the web

SoundCloud’s 4m+ registered users can now sell tracks easily, anywhere across the web and directly from within the browser.

How? Well, SoundRain is a platform developed by Minno about, a micropayments system set up by former Google employees Noah Ready-Campbell and Calvin Young.

SoundRain itself was created a mere eight days ago at Music Hack Day in San Francisco, where Minno’s founders were given the opportunity to integrate Minno with SoundCloud’s API.

The result is an interface that allows music creators to connect their SoundCloud account with SoundRain which enables the creators to select which tracks they wish to sell for a one-off payment of 99 cents per download.

Once a track is enabled for purchase, a ‘Buy with Minno’ link appears on the waveform player which takes the buyer directly to SoundRain, where they can buy the song using Minno in just one click. When sales reach $10, SoundRain delivers artists their earnings via PayPal and then continues to do so in $10 increments, unless the artist chooses otherwise.

SoundCloud founder and CEO, Alexander Ljung, said:

“The fact that SoundRain was born at Music Hack Day just over a week ago is testament to how quickly these integrations with SoundCloud’s API can come to life. By collaborating and connecting the services of two platforms, Minno has created a simple new way to help artists sell their tracks anywhere across the web.”

To echo Ljung’s words, it really is quite remarkable that a platform such as this can go from zero to market in a little over a week, and is proof that the tech scene is thriving.

Noah Ready-Campbell, Minno’s co-founder, said:

“We saw how perfect this (Minno) would be for any artist wanting to sell individual tracks at a low cost, and hassle-free for fans wanting to buy when and where they choose. SoundCloud’s API has made it possible to do this and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

The first artist to trial SoundRain is Cyra Morgan, an acoustic singer/songwriter from New York City, who was recently chosen as SoundClouder of the Day.

Minno launched in January 2011, with the aim of enabling anyone on the web to use micropayments to buy things like articles, web apps, videos, music and pictures. Users sign up for Minno with Facebook Connect. Users are then given $2 in Minno Credit to spend wherever they want, and can get more by referring friends or connecting their credit card.
