Apple sold a record 13 million iPhones on launch weekend

Apple sold a record 13 million iPhones on launch weekend

Apple announced today that it sold a record 13 million iPhone 6s and 6s Plus handsets over launch weekend, shattering last year’s record of 10 million.

In a press release today, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said “sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history.”

Interestingly, Foursquare predicted how many handsets would be sold on launch weekend using its location data and was right on the mark.

This year is the first time Apple has made the iPhone available in China from launch, which likely fueled the first weekend’s sales to new heights.

On top of that, Apple has made huge improvements to its supply chain management to get devices into your hands much easier.

Unlike the launch of the iPhone 6, stock this time around has been less constrained and Apple ran its pre-order program to deliver phones on launch day like clockwork.

Apple also confirmed that the iPhone 6s will be available in 40 more countries beginning October 9 including Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Maldives, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.

On top of that, Apple says that the iPhone 6s will be available in a total of 130 countries by the end of the year.
