You’ll be able to buy Apple’s redesigned Mac Pro for $2,999 before the end of the year

Apple’s redesigned, cylindrical Mac Pro will be available to order before the end of the year for $2,999 , the company announced today.

The new Mac Pro is a dramatic departure from the lumbering, silver high-end desktop that creative professionals have relied on (and often grown fond of) over the years. Apple’s new powerhouse is 9.9 inches in height and 6.6 inches in width, which is roughly an eighth the size of the current Mac Pro tower. It’s fitted with a 6, 8 or 12-core, 256-bit Intel Xeon E5 processor, dual AMD FirePro GPUs (which support 4K displays) and up to 64GB of 1,866MHz DDR3 RAM that can handle 60GB per second bandwidth. Plenty of power for video editors, photographers, programmers and graphic designers alike.

Inside, Apple is also packing its new Mac Pro with up to 1TB of flash storage, four USB 3.0 ports, six Thunderbolt 2 ports, 2 gigabit ethernet ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and one HDMI v 1.4 port. Some serious connectivity, by our standards.

Still on the fence? Here’s the clincher. Apple confirmed today that every Mac Pro will be assembled in the United States. Sold? We are.
