Canada’s immigration website has crashed

As vote counts for the US presidential elections continue to pour in from various states, the Canadian government’s immigration website (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) has crashed, displaying the message viewable above to visitors.

Probably just a coincidence.

Jokes apart, it probably really is a coincidence, as 500 Internal Server Errors are usually caused by things like incorrect file permissions, faulty plugins and erroneous .htaccess files – not necessarily a server overload caused by too many people visiting the site at the same time.
