What a bad day to suffer an outage. US TV streaming service Aereo has apologized to affected customers after it went down during the Golden Globes tonight.
We’re sorry #NYC for the inconvenience tonight. We experienced a partial outage impacting a small group of users. Team on it! We are back up
— Aereo (@Aereo) January 13, 2014
Aereo’s controversial set-up, which uses a small army of tiny antennas to pick up a traditional TV broadcast signal and pipe the content to each user over the Internet, is available to subscribers in a number of US cities only.
It seems tonight’s outage only affected customers in its largest market, New York City, but going down during an important event could raise questions about its ability to handle traffic and harm its reputation rather badly.
