Internet Explorer 6 is on life support. On the first of March, Google is going to pull the plug on supporting the much maligned browser across their many web properties.
Therefore March 1st is the day that IE6 dies. No Google, no life. There will be little crying, and much jubilation around the internet.
Among the web developers of the world this is a serious cause for celebration. Now more hellish developing for ancient technology. Ding dong, the witch is dead.
Some however, are taking the event to the next level, holding a (no kidding) Funeral for IE6. That’s right, if you want to celebrate the end of the browser from hell you can, in style even.

Internet Explorer Six, resident of the interwebs for over 8 years, died the morning of March 1, 2010 in Mountain View, California, as a result of a workplace injury sustained at the headquarters of Google, Inc. Internet Explorer Six, known to friends and family as “IE6,” is survived by son Internet Explorer Seven, and grand-daughter Internet Explorer Eight.
Funeral services for Internet Explorer Six will be held at 7pm on March 4 at Aten Design Group, 1629 Downing Street, Denver, CO 80218. Those unable to attend the funeral are asked to send flowers.

Funeral attire is encouraged. Come mix & mingle with Denver’s top IE6 haters. We’ll have a special time of remembrance, a round of IE6 darts, and plenty of food & drinks.

Given the weight of the momentous occasion, I fully expect a strong turnout. If only I lived in Denver. Are you going to go?
