Vodafone UK strikes deal with Netflix to bring 6 months of free streaming to Red 4G customers

Vodafone UK has signed a deal with Netflix to give its Red 4G customers the option to choose six months of free access to the streaming TV and movie service, rather than a time-limited Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify subscription.

Announced today and available via Vodafone’s retail channels starting in July, the freebie is only available to 4G customers on a contract costing £26 per month or more – we’re still awaiting clarification if this is open to existing, as well as new customers.  The offer will be available until December this year, Vodafone said.

The move is being made to lure in more potential 4G customers as rival carriers also seek to expand their offerings. In March, Vodafone said it had passed the half a million 4G customer mark just six months after switching its higher-speed data network on. Yesterday, EE revealed that it now has more than 3.5 million 4G customers some 18 months after launch, so clearly Vodafone still has a way to go.

Update: Vodafone has been in touch to confirm that this offer is available to new customers only, from July.
