Twitter expands Lists, allowing users up to 1,000 lists of 5,000 accounts per set

Twitter expands Lists, allowing users up to 1,000 lists of 5,000 accounts per set

Twitter announced that it is updating its List feature, expanding it so that users can now have up to 1,000 lists with a maximum of 5,000 accounts in each one.

Lists launched back in 2009 allowing users to better organize their followers and people they want to keep track of. They’re public by default so other users can follow your lists — a benefit of the sharing economy. With Lists, users can create a file on people who talk about specific topics, such as “tech journalism” or “cooking” or are experts in things like Game of Thrones.

Previously, Twitter only allowed up to 20 lists to be created per user account and each one was limited to 500 accounts. While this arrangement might be suitable to most people, there are others who would have wanted that limit to increase and taken to Twitter’s forum to ask for an increase. In one response, Twitter’s platform team member Taylor Singletary responded that “there’s no means at this time to raise the limit on number of lists for an account…”

It appears that after three years, Twitter has thoroughly tested the feature and feel that the time is right to unveil the increase.

While the announcement came from Twitter’s account for media and journalists, this new feature may also be available for all users. We’ve contacted Twitter for clarification and will update if we hear back.
