If you’re a stakeholder in Bitcoin, or just a curious observer like me, then you’ll be interested to learn about Coinmap.
The project aims to map (or, at least, help map) physical retailers that accept Bitcoin and fellow virtual currency Litecoin. It uses Open Street Map data, which allows users and shop owners to easily add new venues — as is explained at the base of the map.
It’s been going a while now — it was ‘announced’ in a Bitcointalk.org forum thread last April — but the idea seems to have gathered some momentum this week. If nothing else, it is an interesting indicator of the take-up that Bitcoin enjoys worldwide.
