Samsung might bounce back from the exploding Galaxy Note 7 with a new bendable phone

Despite the fire-bursting Galaxy Note 7 calamity, Samsung seems focused on the future as the South Korean giant is reportedly working on a new bendable phone technology.

Dutch news outlet Galaxy Club has obtained a recent patent application that suggests Samsung might be developing a futuristic design concept, allowing the screen to bend and fold – much like the flip phones from the early 2000s.

According to the document, the bending/folding mechanism will function “semi automatically.” In addition, the device will also pack a “secondary” display, which will activate anytime the phone is folded.

This isn’t the first time the South Korean manufacturer has been rumored to be working on bendable/foldable technology – indeed, reports date back as far as 2015. This latest patent discovery merely adds more credibility to the rumor.

Other tech peers from the likes of Apple, Xiaomi and LG are also allegedly experimenting with this idea.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling when or whether the technology will make it to market.

Curious to find out more about Samsung’s bendable phone? You can check out the full PDF of the patent application here – it might help to know some Korean though.
