Samsung will tempt potential Galaxy S8 buyers with a killer edge-to-edge OLED display

Samsung will tempt potential Galaxy S8 buyers with a killer edge-to-edge OLED display

Following the recent exploding Note 7 debacle, Samsung is in dire need to make its next flagship smartphone count – and it seems it’s starting by building a better screen.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 might sport a new and improved edge-to-edge OLED display with an over 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, The Investor reports.

During the iMID Display Exhibition in Seoul last week, Samsung mobile engineer Park Won-sang hinted that the South Korean giant is investing considerable resources and workforce into innovating its screen technology.

While Won-sang was reluctant to confirm the new Galaxy S8 will feature the updated OLED panel, he made it clear the tech giant is serious about improving the quality of its screens. Here’s what he had to say:

Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio (a scale that measures space taken up by a display on the front part of a handset) reaches more than 90 percent next year.

Samsung isn’t the only company devoted to improving its display technology.

Earlier in October, Xiaomi teased its slick new edgeless Mi Mix smartphone and Apple is rumored to be contemplating a switch from LCD to OLED panels.

Among other things, the new Galaxy S8 is expected to pack a revamped AI assistant, longer-lasting battery as well as boosted camera capabilities.
