Amazon announces Kindle Fire HD 4G LTE at $499, 8.8mm thick, 32GB of storage with $50/yr 250MB/mo data plan

In an event held just outside of Los Angeles in Santa Monica, Amazon announced the successor to its first tablet effort. The new Kindle is the Kindle Fire HD LTE, an 8.9″ IPS tablet at 1900×1200 resolution that runs at $499 and features 4G LTE.

Amazon also introduced a $49/yr data plan that allows for 250MB of transfer per month. A $10 Amazon Appstore credit and 20GB of Cloud Storage also comes with it.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that they felt that this wasn’t just the “best tablet for the price”, but the best tablet for “any price.” He then showed a comparison chart of the savings vs a 4G equipped iPad.
