Samsung Galaxy S III test unit appears on video, comes with impressive specifications

Samsung Galaxy S III test unit appears on video, comes with impressive specifications

We may only be weeks away from finding out what Samsung has planned with its ‘next Galaxy’ Android smartphone but today one of the first credible leaks of the device has emerged, providing not only a video but detailed specifications.

The leak comes by way of Vietnamese site Tinhte — which has an impressive record of securing Apple devices before anyone else — showing a video overview of a Samsung device that bears the model number GT-I9300, which has long been associated with the Galaxy S III.

The guys at Tinhte report that Samsung has used a fake outer shell to disguise the device, ensuring that it is not exposed before it is announced. This ties up with a previous report from The Verge that suggested Samsung had been using dummy test units that would keep the design under wraps.

However, the smartphone is said to sport a 4.6-inch display with a 720 x 1184 pixel resolution (which at 320 PPI is almost exactly that of the iPhone 4/4S), a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 1GB RAM and an 8-megapixel camera.

It will run Ice Cream Sandwich, provide 16GB of internal storage, ship with a 2050 mAh battery and provide NFC support. Given that it is rumoured to be the official Olympic phone, this comes as no surprise.

The device in the video could house the same internals as the Galaxy S III but we aren’t sure this is what it will look like. That said, we will be at the launch event on May 3 and will bring you the news as it happens.
