Motorola’s Sanjay Jha has today announced the Droid RAZR at a joint event with Verizon. It features a 4.3″ Super AMOLED screen, 7.1mm thickness, kevlar back, stainless steel chassis and 127 gram weight. It also features a 4G LTE radio that will work on Verizon’s network.
It also features splash guard technology which protects it from water damage. A dual-core 1.2Ghz processor powers the device which features an 1800 mAh battery. This gives it a claimed 12.5 hour talk time and 8.9 hours of video playback.
The 7.1mm ‘thinness’ makes the Droid RAZR thinner than the iPhone 4 and certainly the thinnest 4G LTE device out there. The network speeds of LTE will theoretically surpass the speeds of the iPhone 4S easily. This will depend on whether you’re in one of the 178 US markets that Verizon currently covers with LTE of course.
Jha spoke of the device, saying that it was “the best smartphone on the planet.”
“We know that people want access to their personal cloud,” Jha said, announcing MotoCast, a service that streams data and video content from a user’s computer. MotoCast looks to be Motorola’s answer to Apple’s iCloud syncing, although it only gives you access to data on a running PC, as Jha demonstrated when the demo phone was unable to stream data from the PC set up back stage at the event.
Motorola seems to be concentrating on the fact that all of the data is synced to all of your devices so that you don’t have to ‘rely on a cloud’ but it appears that you must have a running computer at home to handle the syncing operations.
You can pre-order the Droid RAZR from October 27th for $299 and will be available in stores and online in “November”.
Here are the specs of the RAZR, note that this table still shows the ‘Spyder’ code name:
