Samsung unveils new Omnia W Windows Phone handset, launching end of October

Samsung has announced the latest addition to its Windows Phone lineup on Monday morning, debuting the new Samsung Omnia W premium smartphone in Italy at the end of October.

The Omnia W will ship with Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango), sporting a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, a 1.4GHz single-core processor, 512MB RAM, 8GB storage, a 5-megapixel rear-facing and VGA front-facing camera. Moving away from the somewhat blocky Omnia 7, the Omnia W is more rounded and is 10.9mm in thickness, weighing 115.3 grams.

Samsung has bundled its own set of Mango-centric Windows Phone applications, including AllShare, Video Call and its own e-reading app.

The device will hit Italy first and will become available gradually elsewhere, Samsung says. The price of the device is not known but with the classification “W”, the Omina W will be a mid-range smartphone and will likely be priced competitively to provide competition to the huge number of affordable Android devices already on the market.
