HTC schedules October 6 launch event in London; HTC Bass incoming?

HTC schedules October 6 launch event in London; HTC Bass incoming?

HTC is adhering to its plan of releasing up to eight smartphones in the third quarter of 2011, with the company today issuing invites for a launch event on October which will include a “press conference and party”.

On October 6, HTC is poised to launch a device that you may already know as the HTC Runnymede – but now has the more consumer-friendly name HTC Bass.

The HTC Bass should line up as the Android equivalent of the HTC Titan, one of two Windows Phone devices unveiled on September 1, shipping with a 1.5GHz single-core processor, 768MB of RAM and 16GB of mass storage. The Bass is expected to feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera – although the optics could be subject to change.

HTC’s new Android smartphone may boast the same 4.7-inch 480×800 pixel display and could become the second Beats-enabled Android smartphone to launch in just over a month.

The first official press shots of the HTC Bass leaked via UK mobile vendor Handtec last week, and were subsequently pulled after news hit various mobile sites.

Slashgear believes we could see the HTC Vigor – tipped to be renamed to the Droid Incredible HD – but with it likely to be CDMA-equipped and heading to Verizon in the U.S, we can’t see the Taiwanese smartphone maker using an European event to showcase a US-focused smartphone.

It’s a little over two weeks until HTC unveils the device to a select number of outlets, we will of course keep you updated on what will likely be the first smartphone that has been built from the outset to include Beats audio technology (the Sensation XE launched as an upgraded handset).
