I never thought I’d witness an evocation of try-hard hipsterdom that summed it up for me like LCD Soundsystem’s 4:28 eye roll ‘Losing My Edge’ once did, but I’ve stumbled upon one, thanks to PSFK.
It reported on the unveiling of WBBR, a radio station – available via an iPhone app – that’s so exclusive you can only access it on the Williamsburg Bridge.
Inevitably, it’s the product of an advertising agency – Sid Lee – and a hipper than hip record label – UNO!
WBBR delivers two songs each day for people making the bridge crossing: a motivational one for the ascent and a chill out that kicks in a the midpoint.
The app is handsfree. It starts playing the day’s selections when you hit the bridge, detecting your location with a combination of GPS tracking and iBeacons.
And if you’re not an ad ‘creative’ on this very particular commute, well, I guess you had to be there, right?
