Amazon’s announced that it’ll be adding High Dynamic Range (HDR) content to Prime later this year. Customers in the US, UK and Germany will be able to watch the movies and TV shows taking advantage of the technology.
HDR is designed to bring greater contrast to the screen with more detailed shadows and distinct highlights making colors appear richer and more lifelike. Netflix is also adding HDR streaming later this year.
Amazon brought 4K Ultra HD streaming to Prime in December last year, in a move that delighted early adopters. The arrival of HDR content on the service will please the same people.
Most of us don’t actually have HDR-enabled 4K TVs yet and it’s likely the amount of shows and movies that support it when it rolls out on Amazon Prime will be pretty limited.
