If you own a copy of Minecraft for the Xbox 360, you’re in for a real treat next month. BBC Worldwide has teamed up with Microsoft Studios to develop a series of Doctor Who-themed packs that include character skins and other assets inspired by the famous sci-fi show.
Not surprisingly, the first instalment will be centered around the twelth doctor, currently played by Peter Capaldi. The Scottish actor, known for his work in the British comedy series The Thick of It, properly took up the role in the first episode of the new season last weekend. This first piece of downloadable content (DLC) will include five other doctors, as well as their unforgetable companions and some villains from the show, such as the Daleks.

The expansion will cost $2.99/£1.99/€2.85/$2.95AUS and other packs are set to follow. Each will include at least six Doctors, which, based on my math, means there should be only two – a blog post says additional packs will be released “regularly following the broadcast episodes in series 8,” so maybe the developers have alternate outfits or something else hidden up their sleeves.
There’s no word on exactly when the first Doctor Who pack will be available for Minecraft, or whether it will be offered on platforms beyond the Xbox 360. When we find out more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
