Yahoo signs deal with NBC to offer live-streaming of 2014 Winter Olympics

Yahoo signs deal with NBC to offer live-streaming of 2014 Winter Olympics

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are set to take place early next year, and Yahoo is getting in on some of the broadcast action. The company revealed today that it has extended its partnership with NBC in order to gain access to all of the network’s digital rights for next year’s Games.

In addition to live competition streams and highlights, Yahoo said it will work with NBC on the creation of a “digital Olympics daily show” and to integrate Yahoo’s products into NBC’s coverage. Variety notes, however, that much of NBC’s streaming will be available only to paid-TV subscribers.

While the firm didn’t go into detail on what the partnership will look like, it did note that users will be able to “watch everything unfold on the live and on-demand NBC Olympics experience from Yahoo.”

Yahoo Sports commentators will help out with segments for both NBCOlympics.com and Yahoo. NBC will also incorporate Yahoo Search, Flickr and Tumblr into its broadcasts. Yahoo and NBC have been collaborating on sports coverage for over a year.
