Here’s an affordable way to help colleagues in a remote office easily scan and email documents using a Raspberry Pi computer and an old scanner, as documented by network and systems administrator Eduardo Luís.
The system is set up to be relatively foolproof on the scanning end so that people who are unfamiliar with computers can work it. Putting the system together take a bit of a network background, though, as Luís used a combination of Raspbian, Sendmail, Bind, Python, Bash, Sane, Imagemagick and Mutt to get it to work.
If you’re interested in building your own version, you can hit up Luís’ site for sample scripts and other tips.
