The dark depths of the internet have many secrets.
Deep dive into YouTube — clicking on related videos for a few hours — and you find some weird shit.Meet 真ん中小五郎, a guy living in Tokyo with a (very cute) pug.
For reasons I can’t begin to comprehend, he started uploading videos of his dog on October 8th, 2014.
Since then he’s sustained a steady flow of uploads, with his last video posted two hours ago (as of writing time) — that’s more than a video per day. After watching a few videos, the theme becomes clear.
Every time you’re presented with a short clip of a pug riding a skateboard, dressed in various extravagant outfits. Sometimes something special happens, like this sudden appearance of a shopping basket. As fun and weird as these short videos are, nobody seems to care.
Almost every upload has either none or a very low number of views. This raises a few questions: Why even bother to keep uploading if no one is watching? Why dress up your pug every day, make a video and put it online?I guess we’ll never know.
All we can do is browse an endless archive of a nameless dog on a skateboard, reflect on life, and thank the internet.
