Amazon has upped its game in San Diego; after introducing booze delivery earlier this month, it’s now offering one-hour food delivery as well.
Taking on the likes of Postmates and GrubHub, Amazon’s Prime Now will deliver meals from more than 90 restaurants, including Carnitas’ Snack Shack, Native Foods and Urban India.
Amazon says its average delivery time is 39 minutes in areas that it already dispatches food, so San Diego residents can expect the same level of promptness.
The Prime Now food delivery service is available in 16 ZIP codes at launch: 92101, 92103, 92104, 92108, 92116, 92123, 92134, 92106, 92107, 92110, 92140, 92147, 92102, 92105, 92109 and 92111.
Anyone living in the selected neighborhoods can use the Prime Now app to order their food and track the delivery from start to finish.
Prime Now one-hour delivery usually incurs a surcharge but Amazon is offering restaurant orders at no additional cost, provided they meet the $20 minimum order amount. With the likes of Postmates and DoorDash charging a $4 delivery fee, Amazon may be undercutting its rivals.
