Watch this skier narrowly avoid being hit by a drone that fell from the sky

World champion Skier Marcel Hirscher was nearly hit today when a drone came out of nowhere and crash landed next to him during a slalom race.

“This is horrible,” Hirscher said to NBC Sports. “This can never happen again. This can be a serious injury.”

It’s not clear why the drone dropped from the sky, but it was carrying a camera used for TV coverage. There’s no word on whether or not the TV crew knew the drone was coming down, or if they told race officials about any problems that could endanger skiers.

Luckily, nobody was hurt. Hirscher escaped being hit by the drone by inches — and seconds. If you’ve ever wondered why the FAA is so hot to register drones and restrict flying space, give that GIF up there another look.
