Report: Google will challenge Facebook and Slack with new messaging app

Report: Google will challenge Facebook and Slack with new messaging app

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Google is working on a new messaging app that will have intelligence via a communicative bot — just like Facebook’s M.

Details are still light on this, so we haven’t yet heard just how smart Google’s new app might be. Ideally, it would cobble contextual information like events from your calendar into the mix.

It also makes sense for Google to implement search. The report says Google is interested in letting developers integrate bots of their own for the app, much like Slack has recently done.

Is this a new version of Hangouts or the next iteration of Google Now? Or, is it a totally new app? That’s impossible to know, but it seems as though Facebook and Slack have ruffled Google’s feathers.
