Tumblr is adding a chat feature for Web and mobile users

Tumblr will soon be a chat platform. In a blog post today on its support page, Tumblr notes the ability to chat with others is “on its way” for Web and mobile users.

On your dashboard, a smiling balloon icon denotes chat is available. You can send a message to anyone, which activates the chat feature on their end if they don’t already have it.

Tumblr also says chat can be used for fan mail. “Old fan mail conversations can keep kicking, but you’ll need to use messaging for initiating outgoing gems.”

If you’re not seeing the chat capability, don’t worry. Tumblr says it’s rolling out over the next few weeks.
