A Google engineer is reviewing USB-C cables on Amazon, and it’s awesome

If you’re in the market for a USB-C cable, finding a good one can be hard. You can read reviews, but wading through those can get tedious. A Google engineer from the Pixel team is on his own Amazon review crusade to help you find the right cable, though.

Benson Leung not only plugs cables in to make sure they work, he’ll also tell you if they’re spec compliant.

He’s only testing on a Chromebook Pixel (or Pixel C), but his reviews are much more in-depth than yours or mine. I mean, he actually knows what the USB-C specs are — and how to test for them.

A quick glance at his reviews prove what you might already be thinking: cheap cables suck. It’s not a hard and fast rule, but the more expensive cables Leung has tested typically fare much better.

Leung hasn’t published his review for the USB-C cable Google sells in its store, but we’ll go ahead and assume he’s given it his nod of approval. And at $12.99, it might be the best deal around.
