Time to wear your watch to bed; Sleep++ offers native sleep tracking for the Apple Watch

You may want to start charging your Apple Watch during the day. Sleep++, a new native app for Apple Watch, wants to track your sleeping habits throughout the night.

The app was written by David Smith, who is also behind the wildly popular Pedometer++.

When you tell the app you’re going to bed, Sleep++ uses the Apple Watch’s motion capture capabilities to gauge your movement throughout the night. In the morning (after you tell it you’re ready to get out of bed), the app will provide simple metrics on how well you rested.

Like Jawbone, Sleep++ will tell you when you were in deep sleep, and when you were restless. It can be used when the Apple Watch is in Airplane Mode, too.

If you like, Sleep++ can also feed information to your iPhone’s Health app.

Smith tells me the app drains about 10 percent of your Apple Watch battery overnight (depending on how much you sleep). Not bad considering I tend to lose 4 percent when my watch sits idly on the nightstand.

The free app is full-featured, and an optional in-app purchase removes ads. For those who’ve been wanting a way to track sleeping habits using the Apple Watch, give Sleep++ a shot. It requires watchOS 2, so be sure to upgrade ahead of downloading the app.
