Oculus announces Connect 2, its second-annual VR dev conference

VR is so hot right now, and a lot of it is due to the developer enthusiasm over Oculus. The Facebook-acquired VR pioneer will be talking innovation again at the second iteration of their Connect conference, Connect 2, which the company announced via blog post will take place in Hollywood in late September.

Registration is now open for the conference, which starts a $495 for early-bird attendees and will jump up to $695 on site. A limited set of $95 passes are also available to indie VR developers and students.

Oculus said it’s also accepting submissions for speakers, especially for certain subjects:

  • VR Engineering – These talks will cover technical details of developing for PC and mobile platforms, including best practices for optimizing performance, minimizing latency, and mastering advanced rendering techniques.
  • Game and App Design – These talks will focus on design and development principles for creating new VR games, apps, and experiences that are innovative, immersive, and fun.
  • Cinematic VR – These talks will share lessons around combining elements of traditional film, games, theatre, and performance art to create unique VR experiences that place the audience inside the story and virtual world.

The submission deadline for speakers is August 3.

Not much has been revealed about the event, although its website says that Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe, Chief Scientist Michael Abrash and CTO (and tech icon) John Carmack will provide keynotes.
